Signs your business software needs upgrading
Projovi team4 min read
Software rarely fails all at once. It gets a little slower and a little harder to change each year, until the workarounds cost more than the fix. Here are the signs that it is time to look again.
Your team works around it
Spreadsheets next to the system, data typed in twice, a person who is the only one who knows how it works. These are signs that the software no longer fits how the business runs.
Small changes take a long time
If adding a field or a report takes weeks, or developers are reluctant to touch it, the foundations have become a constraint on your plans.
- It no longer receives security updates from its supplier.
- It does not connect to the tools your customers and partners use.
- It is slow, or unavailable at busy times.
- It does not work well on phones and tablets.
- Hosting and support cost more each year.
Upgrading is not always a rebuild. Often the best first step is to keep what works and replace the rest in stages.
What to do next
Ask for an assessment. A good one tells you what to keep, what to improve and what to retire, with priorities and a plan, so you can act on it at your own pace.
