You do not need a data science team to benefit from AI. The most useful projects are small, aimed at one repeated task, and easy to measure.
Look for repeated, rule-based work
Ask your team which tasks they repeat every day and would happily hand over. Sorting enquiries, drafting standard replies, extracting details from documents and preparing weekly reports are all common starting points.
Good first projects
- An assistant that answers common customer questions and passes the rest to a person.
- Automatic capture of invoice or order details from emails and documents.
- A clear dashboard that joins the data you already have.
- Draft summaries of meetings, calls or long documents for a person to check.
Pick one task, measure the time it takes today, and judge the project against that number.
Keep a person in the loop
Let AI prepare the work and a person approve it, especially at the start. You get most of the time saving with much less risk, and you learn where it can be trusted.
Look after your data
Decide what information can be used, where it is stored and who can see the results. Clear rules at the beginning make it easy to grow later.
